Getting better at sleep
HOW MANY TIMES HAVE YOU LIED THERE IN BED, WIDE-AWAKE, WITH YOUR BRAIN GOING A THOUSAND MILES A MINUTE?
It happens way more often than we’d like. Fortunately, there are some simple ways you can set yourself up for a good night’s sleep, and we are more than happy to share them with you!
First of all, breathe. Yep, that’s it. Just breathe. Believe it or not, your breath is one of your most powerful tools to combat stress and anxiety. The simple act of taking deep breaths actually calms your nervous system and instigates a reaction of physical relaxation. So fill up your lungs and take some deep belly breaths – it’s the fastest (and cheapest) way to relax.
Then, of course, don’t forget to get your blood pumping at some point during the day.
EXERCISING EVEN FOR 10 MINUTES A DAY CAN HAVE A PHENOMENAL IMPACT ON THE QUALITY OF YOUR SLEEP.
Plus, those endorphins make you feel so goooood. You may not love this next piece of advice, but it’s actually one of the best things you can do for your sleep:
UNPLUG YOUR DEVICES BEFORE BEDTIME.
Yes, we know, it’s really hard, but it’s so worth it for a good, restful night’s sleep. Staring at devices before bedtime has been proven to mess with our circadian rhythm, which means checking your emails or your Instagram before bed can lead to poor sleep. Try turning off or stowing away your phone, laptop, and tablet before bed and instead finding another way to unwind at the end of the day.
Whether you like reading books, meditating, taking a soothing bath or going through your own individual nighttime routine.
Try to make the last hour before bedtime an hour of relaxation, as this will help you ease into a deep, restful sleep that will leave you feeling refreshed, energized, and ready for the next day !
